The Van Alten family founded Dutchman’s Gold in 1981. Starting a sweet tradition with 300 hives, they have grown to now tend 1,500 hives and some 80 million honey bees! Being a Canadian, family-run business the Van Alten family takes pride in producing pure honey, maple syrup, and beeswax products. Open year round, Dutchmans’ Gold employs 15 hardworking individuals to help with beekeeping, extracting, packing, candle making, creating Beauty & the Bee skin care products, administration, and delivering Dutchman’s Gold products throughout the GTA.

STRATEGY

Over the course of our long-standing business relationship with Dutchman’s Gold, we have created a large family of packaging including everything from honey to maple syrup. Recently, we branded and designed packaging and product materials for Beauty & The Bee, a line of all natural beauty products. The challenge with Beauty & The Bee was to keep the new product line soundly rooted in the Dutchman’s Gold brand, while making a name for their beauty products in a new, highly competitive market.

Beauty & The Bee: Dutchman’s Gold came to us with Beauty & The Bee, a line of natural beauty products infused with their honey products. They needed help connecting the look and feel of the Dutchman’s Gold brand with the elements needed to sell a natural line of beauty products. Linking together pattern, shape and texture, along with a softer colour palette and lighter typography treatment, Beauty & The Bee was created as a feminine extension of the Dutchman’s Gold brand.
